Introduction to the Popular Science Volunteer Project:

In 2015, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding established a professional popular science volunteer team to oversee conservation education based on giant pandas. This team is primarily engaged in comprehensive popular science services with diversified forms and rich content, including popular science interpretation, popular science activity support, venue and park service, popular science creation, popular science performances, text translation, and graphic design. Throughout its years of development, this team has been gradually expanded through the mode of “regular recruitment, professional training, employment assessment, and promotion through learning”. In recent years, reforms in the management system and software and hardware upgrades were initiated in the popular science volunteer project to further enhance its management and business quality. Throughout this process, many excellent volunteers full of excitement and completely capable have been molded and are devoted to the frontlines of popular science education. Now, they have become an efficient team contributing to the conservation education of the Panda Base.

Over the 8 years it has operated, the volunteer team has thoroughly studied and implemented the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, promoted the spiritual civilization, and incorporated new development concepts. With the support and guidance of organizations and leaders at all levels and under the joint efforts of the Base popular science team, this project has achieved laudable results and excellent social benefits.

Awards:

1. In 2018, the Base’s popular science volunteer service project won Best Example of Public Education by the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens;

2. In 2019, the Base’s popular science volunteer service project was included in the 2019 Top Ten Volunteer Service Projects by the Office of Chengdu Steering Committee for the Building of Spiritual Civilization;

3. In 2021, the Base’s popular science volunteer service team was as honored as the 2021 Advanced Science Volunteer Service Team Model by the China Association for Science and Technology and was selected as one of the preeminent examples.

4.In 2021, the Base’s popular science volunteer service team was deemed the Best Volunteering Organization of the 2021 National Lei Feng (a moral model) Volunteer Service “Four 100” Exemplary Model by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Steering Committee for the Building of Spiritual Civilization.

Furthermore, the popular science volunteer team has also established an internal governance system and improved volunteer committee system step by step.
