Enrichment refers to a series of measures taken to meet physiological and psychological needs of captive animals that improves their lives and allows them to exhibit their natural behaviors. It also refers to any change in their living environment that makes their life more vibrant. It works better than meeting animals’ need to be free to roam to normal behaviors and from hunger, thirst, discomfort, pain, disease, injury, fear, and anxiety.
Enrichment for giant pandas is a dynamic process based on understanding wild giant panda behaviors, natural life history, and basic needs. It is believed that changes in the local or entire environment where captive giant pandas reside (including but not limited to changes in their cage and enclosure or adaption in management) will encourage giant pandas to present diversified and species-specific behaviors, more than to be more active. It includes enrichment for food, environment, senses, community, and cognition. Making the Enrichment
