The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a public institution at the deputy bureau-director level in the second category and managed by the Chengdu Administration for Park City Construction. It has 1 director (deputy-bureau-director level), 1 full-time deputy secretary (division-head level), and 4 deputy directors (division-head level). It is divided into 6 internal organizations: Department of Comprehensive Party-Mass Services, Animal Conservation Research Department, Animal Feeding and Management Department, Animal Disease Prevention and Control Department, Culture and Tourism Development Department, and Chengdu Field Research Center for Giant Pandas.
Each department (center) will bear the following responsibilities:
(I) Department of Comprehensive Party-Mass Services. It is responsible for administrative and logistical work, including goals, messages, confidentiality, petition letters, conferences, archives, asset management; personnel and finance; Party building, group-mass work, culture promotion, and safety management.
(II) Animal Conservation Research Department. It is in charge of scientific research on endangered and rare wildlife conservation, including giant pandas and red pandas, technological innovations, achievements in commercialization and project management; oversees daily management for the Sichuan Key Laboratory of Conservation Biology on Endangered Wildlife (National Key Laboratory Cultivation Base co-built by Sichuan Province and the Ministry of Science and Technology) and Postdoctoral Research Workstation, and popular science education on endangered and rare wildlife like giant pandas and red pandas.
(III) Animal Feeding and Management Department. It is in charge of feeding and breeding endangered and rare wildlife like giant pandas and red pandas. It is also responsible for showcasing the animals.
(IV) Animal Disease Prevention and Control Department. It is responsible for monitoring the health of endangered and rare wildlife like giant pandas and red pandas, preventing and treating diseases, and rescuing and conserving wild giant pandas.
(V) Culture and Tourism Development Department. It shoulders the responsibilities of educating about and visiting endangered and rare wildlife like giant pandas and red pandas, landscaping, facility installment and environment sanitation; it also propels informatization construction and management for the Panda Base.
(VI) Chengdu Field Research Center for Giant Pandas. It oversees conservation, breeding, field-survival exercises and reintroduction of endangered wildlife, including giant pandas; it is also responsible for the daily management of the Center.
