World Environment Day: Riding on the Wave of Waste Classification with Pandas and Being a Green Actor

The theme of World Environment Day this year makes “People and Nature, Harmony and Coexistence” the centerpiece. To further foster public awareness of environmental protection and navigate people to proactively implement domestic waste classification, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding launched “waste classification is the new fashion” science popularization activities in Chengdu Giant Panda Museum and Dujiangyan Panda Valley in parallel.

At the activity site, visitors studied the exhibition panels while listening to the science lectures to learn more about waste classification. They disposed their own garbage correctly under the guidance of the staff after they gained an understanding of the Base’s daily process of waste classification. They simulated the classification on site and tested the learning results in the game. At the end, visitors received science publicity gifts and promised to practice environmental protection on a daily basis. The step-by-step process of learning about the theoretical knowledge first and simulating the classification then was very rewarding for everybody.

The activities were aimed at further building public awareness of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, firmly establishing the concept of respecting nature, responding to nature, and protecting nature, and helping to build a beautiful home where people and nature live in harmony.

There is still a lot we can do to protect the natural environment, let’s roll out with pandas, start from the waste classification, start with our daily life, ride on the wave of waste classification, and play a part for environmental protection!
