Panda Base Launches Earth Hour 2021 Popular Science Campaign

Earth Hour, an environmental protection initiative proposed by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), has become the world’s most influential movement for the environment since the symbolic lights-out in Sydney in 2007. The event started by calling on people to develop a good habit of turning off their lights when leaving a room and saving resources, and it gradually shifted its focus to draw attention to energy, sustainable lifestyles, and ecological protection. Earth Hour has gone beyond a mere call to turn off the lights and has become the world’s largest environmental protection movement. “60+” has also carried more meaning and calls on even more people to embrace the concept of environmental protection and join in on the action.

Earth Hour 2021 was held on March 27, 2021 at 8:30 pm with the theme Voice for the Planet. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding conducted a series of popular science publicity activities with the theme Conservation of Animal and Plant Resources on the same day. Through thematic posters; interactive popular science interpretation; thematic popular science videos, exchanges, and sharing; and distribution of popular science materials, it narrated the status quo of ecological environment protection and the efforts made by all of society to protect the natural environment, shared daily environmental protection practices, and raised public awareness about environmental protection. By taking the Earth Hour event as an opportunity, it has evolved beyond turning off the lights, and encourages the public to actively give voice to the planet and work together to protect ecology and care for animals globally.
