Visit to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding by Delegation Led by Nikai Toshihiro, Director-General of Japanese Liberal Democratic Party
 

Recently, accompanied by relevant leaders from the Sichuan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, a delegation led by Nikai Toshihiro, Director-General of Japanese Liberal Democratic Party and a senior Japanese politician, organized a special visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding where they had longed to visiting.
The delegation led by Nikai Toshihiro firstly came to Zone B of the Juvenile Panda House where resided a panda named Xing Bang that once stayed at the Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan. After listening to the introduction of the conditions of Xing Bang’s at the Base by Abe Nobuko, an external Japanese breeder, Nikai Toshihiro smiled happily and said that he’s grateful. He excitedly greeted Xing Bang in his native dialect, stood and appreciated the panda, and took pictures with it. Then, Pu Anning, Deputy Director of the General Confidential Department of the Base, introduced our activities in scientific research, breeding, conservation education, and international cooperation for giant pandas, which were recognized and praised by Nikai Toshihiro. Meanwhile, the beautiful natural environment and unique natural resources of the Base also left a deep impression on the distinguished guests.
It’s said that Nikai Toshihiro came to Sichuan this time to attend the China-Japan Disaster Prevention and Reduction Forum at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. This year, marks the 40th anniversary of signing the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty and the 10th anniversary of the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake. Since 1983, Nikai Toshihiro has been elected as a member of the Japanese Houses of Representatives 12 times. In August 2016, he accepted the office of Director-General of Japanese Liberal Democratic Party. He is friendly to China and emphasizes Sino-Japanese relations. Over the years, he has actively promoted political and non-governmental exchanges between the two countries and has been received by Chairman Xi twice. After the devastating 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake, Mr. Nikai made time to come to Sichuan with a large quantity of relief supplies. At this invitation, he specifically proposed to visit the areas devastated by the earthquake in Sichuan and the giant panda that had returned from Adventure World in Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan. Meanwhile, he said that we should promote further exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the field of disaster prevention and reduction and increase exchanges between our two respective peoples.
