Conservation Education Programs for Primary Schools in SichuanUrban and Rural Areas:

To initiate nature conservation education in kindergartens and primary schools, we have provided training courses for teachers and prepared corresponding syllabus with teachers for students of all ages. These lesson plans will be used in a pilot school before being gradually accepted by other kindergartens and schools, and carried out pre-job training of teachers in nature conservation through joint efforts with normal universities. This program is the first of its kind to make up for the deficiency of inadequate nature conservation education of the children in China. Since October 2007, we have initiated training courses for the teachers of Chengdu Sanyuan Foreign Languages School, Panda Road Primary School and Chengdu Youshi Experimental Kindergarten and compiled and published the sections of background information and philosophical basics for the textbooks applicable for teachers and parents based on the advanced nature conservation theory in existence.

Volunteers were selected from University students who were trained to direct the camp activities. This project was implemented to educate the children about how they can help protect the environment in their hometown, and additionally integrate and influence the communities around the nature reserves in efforts to decrease their impact on the threatened environment and wildlife around them.

We have also carried out survey of the natural resources in natural reserves and the community economic and cultural development and living conditions in the local area to determine the direction of program development, and conducted environment education necessity assessment, environment conservation training, follow-up guidance and assessment after commencement of project in natural reserves.

Co-funded by Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), we have initiated environmental education program in Minshan area, including environment education necessity assessment, environment conservation training and follow-up guidance and assessment after commencement of project.
